Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reformer Pilates and is it right for me?
Reformer Pilates is a full-body, low-impact workout performed on a spring-resistance machine called a Reformer. It builds strength, improves posture, and increases flexibility in a way that feels genuinely different to anything else. Whether you are completely new to movement or a seasoned exerciser looking for something that actually works, Reformer Pilates at MOVA Studios in York is designed to meet you where you are.
Do I need any experience to try Reformer Pilates?
Not at all. MOVA Studios offers dedicated beginner Reformer Pilates classes in York, so you will never be thrown in at the deep end. Our instructors will walk you through everything, from how the Reformer works to how to get the most from every movement. If you are brand new, our 3-class intro pass is the perfect place to start
What is the 3-class intro pass and how does it work?
The MOVA intro pass gives new members 3 classes for £35 and is valid for 3 weeks from the date of your first booking. It is open to anyone who has not previously held a MOVA membership or class pass, and it covers any combination of Reformer, Mat Pilates, or Yoga classes. It is genuinely the easiest way to try the studio and find what you love.
Can I do Pilates if I have an injury or health condition?
Many people come to Reformer and Mat Pilates precisely because they are managing an injury, recovering from one, or looking for a form of movement that feels safe for their body. We always recommend checking with your GP or physio before starting something new if you are unsure. Our instructors are experienced at modifying movements and will always work with you, not around you.
Is parking available near MOVA Studios in York?
There is on-street parking available on Boroughbridge Road, Lavender Grove, and the surrounding streets. You can also park at the doctor’s surgery next door before 8am and after 5pm. The studio is also accessible by public transport from York city centre.

What is the difference between Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates?
Mat Pilates is performed on the floor using your own bodyweight and focuses on core strength, stability, and flexibility. Reformer Pilates uses a spring-resistance machine that adds both support and challenge to every movement, allowing for a greater range of exercises and more progressive loading. Both are brilliant, and many MOVA members do both each week.
